The mission of Black Farmers Urban Growers (BUGs) is to engage people of African descent in critical food and farm-related issues that directly impact our health, communities, and economic security.

The local organizing team for the Black Farmers and Urban Growers Conference in Oakland is a dynamic group of farmers, growers, activists, and innovative social enterprise entrepreneurs who are part of the vibrant local food scene, ranked #7 nationwide by USA Today.

Laney College, founded in 1953, is the prime Downtown Oakland location for the conference. Laney College features renowned programs in such fields as journalism, culinary arts, mathematics, machine technology and ethnic studies.

Friday’s, October 16, Laney Bistro Lunch Buffet is a hidden jewel. You will enjoy culinary excellence while overlooking Urban Agriculture and Ethnic Community Gardens alongside the Oakland Estuary.

The 5th National BUGs conference is very important for new and aspiring farmers of African descent as well as those who have been in the agricultural field for many, many decades.

Nationwide, conference presenters and attendees are looking forward to Visiting Oakland. Together, we will build a stronger national network, while honoring our unique and extensive Agricultural heritage.
