Hyatt uses labor agencies that provide it with large pools of workers who are often Latino or Black. The economic effect on these workers is huge. Wages are lower, and even full time employees often end up working without health insurance or sick days.

Hyatt's aggressive use of subcontractors allows it to pay poverty wages to workers. Yesterday in front of the Tech Mart and the Santa Clara Hyatt, pro-labor groups protested the giant hotel chain's lack of corporate responsibility.

Participating groups including co-organizers Silicon Valley Rising and union SEIU-USWW. (Service Employees International Union-United Service Workers West). The San Jose Peace and Justice Center, Las Abuelitas Enojadas (Raging Grannies), and other unions/groups were well represented. As it coincided with the same day as the Pope's visit to Washington D.C., clergy members who spoke cited the international religious figure's call for economic justice in speeches.
