Come support two African People’s Education & Defense Fund grand openings:

First, Akwaaba Hall (7911 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland) presents a night of food, entertainment and a tour on Fri., Oct. 9 from 6-9pm. Under president Ona Zene Yeshitela’s tireless leadership and infinite vision, the African People’s Education and Defense Fund is growing at a breakneck speed. APEDF is finishing the renovations at the Uhuru House community center and opening it to the community as “Akwaaba Hall” for community rentals as well as for APEDF programs.

Second, Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles (3742 Grand Ave., Oakland) will unveil its new expanded space on Sat., Oct. 10 from 10am-6pm including refreshments, music and amazing deals. Celebrate the support of people like you in the Bay Area that has contributed to this 27-year-old landmark store’s capacity to expand. A short program will take place from 2-3pm.

Then, on Sun, Oct. 11 from 1-3pm participate in a forum at Akwaaba Hall entitled “African Working Class – Push for Economic Development” discussing the importance of Africans ourselves building our own African independent economy. APEDF is launching African community economic development institutions such as Uhuru Jiko Community Kitchen. Uhuru Jiko in Oakland will be home to a workforce development project providing employment and training – including those in the African community who have experienced incarceration which drastically limits opportunities to contribute to their families and communities.

Presenting at all three events is Omali Yeshitela, leader of the Uhuru Movement. Be a part of these historic events.
