House Passes DARK Act

Sad to say but it's true- the House just passed the DARK act. Next steps? The Senate.
Sad to say but it's true- the House just passed the DARK act. The vote sounds like a pretty large margin (275-150) but we actually did better than we thought we might. Most of California's democrats voted No. Thanks for your hard work on that!

Next steps? The Senate. We hear that it'll go there after summer recess in September. The good news is that both our Senators are on board with us. We aren't worried at all about Senator Boxer, but we need to be sure that Feinstein does not flip. It would be really great if, instead, she becomes a lobbyist for us, convincing other Senators that voting this bad law down is what their constituents want.

The Senate does not yet have a sister bill yet so the thing we are concerned about the most is that they will sneak in amendments in an Appropriations or other "must pass" bill as they cannot get the support for it directly.

So what can we do in the meantime?

* Reach out to your friends, family and folks in other states. We need to make sure this stops in the House and they need to educate their Senators NOW.

* Continue voting with your forks.

* "Spank" your rep if they voted yes. Call them again See the roll call of the vote here:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2015/roll462.xml

* Call and thank you Rep if they voted yes. See above list.

* Educate those around you. They can vote in laws all they want, but if we aren't buying the GMOs, they'll continue to flee the market.

* Give yourselves a huge pat on the back for trying!

We will keep in touch with developments. TPP and the other trade agreements will be amping up in early fall or earlier. Let's hope that we are able to stop that one!

Take care and thanks to you all for all you did and do to help ensure a future that includes food justice for all!
