West Contra Costa County teachers who are members of United Teachers of Richmond are fighting for a contract and have face wage cuts for years as well as privatization and charters

"We need A Living Wage" UTR Teachers Rally For 24% And Against Charters Privatization
West Contra Costa County United Teachers of Richmond UTR rallied and spoke out at the Administrative offices of the school district to demand a 24% wage increase over 3 years. They reported that they have taken wage cuts and no longer have a living wage. They also discussed the role of privatization and the use of charters to weaken and harm public education.
Also Dinga Sikwebu, the Education Director of the National Union Of Metal Workers which is the largest union in South Africa spoke in solidarity of their struggle and the conditions of teachers and education in South Africa.
