Innovative New Show on Free Radio Santa Cruz

by Penny Sweet
New program on Free Radio Santa Cruz.
There is a new innovative program on Free Radio Santa Cruz now called Lava Lamps & 8-Track Theatre. Hosted by Bay Area native and on-air personality Nurse Annabella, she got her start with the independent San Francisco radio station called Radio Valencia back in 2013,and is now with FRSC. She takes freeform radio to a whole other level. Using a new form of mixing on the radio that has never been heard of before called "Youtube Mixing",she also plays actual rare 8-track tapes on the air,as well as being the first DJ on the FM airwaves in Northern California to play rare video game sounds. What makes this program even more unique is that, for a really obscure show. Nurse Annabella manages to rope in rather high profile celebrity interviews. Take for instance, actor Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame has appeared on her show, as well as Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward, and countless other celebrities you'd think wouldn't ever take the time to speak to such an unknown radio personality. Lately the show has been gaining momentum within the underground radio scene. Her show was also briefly syndicated for 8 months on an independent station in Elliot Lake,ON,Canada called Nomad Radio. That is quite an achievement as that marks the first time a Bay Area DJ has ever been simulcasted in both Canada and Northern California at the same time. The new radio rebellion has begun! When asked about her newfound "fame",Nurse Annabella replied to me by saying, "It's not about gaining fame, but showing the mainstream media that small voices can be heard, and small voices will be heard LOUD.". Please checkout her show which airs every Sunday on Free Radio Santa Cruz from 4 to 7 PM.
