Cannabis in California: Legalization Update

by via ReformCA
There's a lot going on in our movement in California and across the nation.

Cannabis officially became legal last week in Alaska and Washington, D.C. Despite warnings from the prohibitionists, the sky didn't fall in either place, but some extreme members of Congress wouldn't let it go.

They warned the mayor of D.C. with jail time for going ahead with legalization — a disgrace when you consider that it won 70 percent of the vote in November. The D.C. police chief told them to chill out saying, “marijuana smokers are not going to attack and kill a cop...they just want to get a bag of chips and relax. Alcohol is a much bigger problem.”

This is what we're up against, and why it's so important that our movement comes together in California over the next few months.

We're making good headway. We visited Humboldt County last weekend for our latest Legalization Roundtable with the Emerald Growers Association. There was a lively discussion on a number of topics (just see the list in the image above), and a few folks introduced a several new ideas! I was surrounded by a beautiful landscape and well intentioned debate that moved us forward in the process, and increased our determination for a unified, statewide coalition.

Future events are planned or in the works for Grass Valley, Sacramento, Monterey, San Jose and the Bay Area. Get in touch with us if you're interested in attending.

There's no doubt about it: momentum is building. Even Kamala Harris, who this summer laughed when asked about legalization, recently said that she believes “it is an inevitability" that our movement will be successful in 2016.

There are plenty of exciting updates on the way. Be sure to follow our Facebook page for the latest and tell your friends to join us at ReformCA.com.
