Online Rally against Belo Monte mega dam
Norte Energia consortium is building a mega dam on an indigenous area near the Xingu river, a major Amazon tributary. Now over fifty percent of the construction are complete. The Belo Monte Dam complex is designed to divert the Xingu River's flow. It will devastate an area of over 1,500 square kilometers of Brazilian rainforest and cause the forced displacement of up to 40,000 indigenous people. Join the protest on Norte Energia websites on November 25-27.

The Brazilian government didn't hold constitutionally required meetings with indigenous communities affected by the dam before granting permission in 2005 to start with the construction. The indigenous Xingu people are forced to leave their land without any compensation. We underline that the rights of the Xingu people are enshrined by a declaration of the United Nations.
No production of electricity justifies the destruction of the natural habitat of people which have been living in harmony with the flora and fauna for thousands of years. STOP deforestation in the Brazilian Rainforest and ethnic cleansing due to the Belo Monte mega dam!
In support of the indigeneous Xingu people join the protest on Norte Energia websites on November 25-27. Spread the word!
