Capital Reading Group

The ICSS is forming a Reading Group on Marx’s Capital. We are meeting about every two weeks on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Our next meeting will be on Wed, Nov 12, from 7-9 PM, when we will discuss Section 2 of Chapter 1 of Capital. We decided that it would be best if everyone read the same edition of Capital so we’re all on the same page, literally if not ideologically. We decided on the Penguin edition translated by Ben Fowkes, available from Amazon.com for $11.30.

The Institute for the Critical Study of Society at the Niebyl Proctor Marxist Library (ICSS) was formed to further the Library's goals of preserving our written heritage, as well as supporting emerging struggles for racial and gender equality, and for Socialism. The members of ICSS are active in different aspects of people’s struggles in the Bay Area and globally. Some are affiliated with specific political parties and tendencies, others are not. We are united in our respect for the work of Karl Marx and our belief that his work will remain as important for the class struggles of the future as they have been for the past. As a group, we continue to draw inspiration from the work of Karl Marx, including his Eleventh Thesis on Feuerbach: “The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.”

Our major project is our lecture/discussion series, “Sunday Mornings at the Marxist Library.” For our schedule, go to icssmarx.org For info: Gene Ruyle at 510-428-1578 or cuyleruyle [at] mac.com
