OPD is going to `steal everything'
The modern-day sequel to the bad cowboy-and-Indian productions of old continues. Late last week, Indigenous Elder and Occupy2Decolonize founder Zachary Runningwolf went to court to deal w\ a citation he received for `illegal lodging', which is to say the authorities entertain the delusion that they can tell an Indigenous Elder where he can lay his head on Indigenous land. While Runningwolf was at the courthouse, one or more individuals entered the O2D site and committed acts of vandalism, including stomping a patch of sacred tobacco plants. Then on Sept. 21st, several OPD officers `made contact' with Runningwolf and told him they were going to `steal everything' [from the O2D site]. There was no citation or written warning issued this time; just an off-the-record visit and courtesy notice, warning of unlawful, extra-judicial activity intended by representatives of the OPD.
Clearly the authorities feel threatened by the existence of O2D. Maybe the locals are taking such a personal interest b\c of Runningwolf's endorsement of the `Anybody But Jean Quan' counter-campaign against the incumbent Oaktown mayor. And we know Jerry Brown has his eye on it - he personally returned Cindy Sheehan's gubernatorial campaign banners that had been confiscated. And the Feds are interested, too - surveillance drones have been spotted hovering over the site. But nonetheless, Occupy2Decolonize will continue to win the fight. Keep in touch w\ us - participation and donations are always welcome. A-ho.
