Fingerprinting the Internet Governance Forum
Invasive tracking was used by the host country of the Internet Governance forum. During the week of the forum in Turkey, trials of 29 twitter users continued uninterrupted nearby.
(7Sept14) An innovative tracking system that assigns a unique fingerprint to each visitor's web browser was deployed at the Internet Governance Forum held in Instanbul, Turkey last week. Here you see cookies from addthis.com that have been set for 2 years. While they are created, the server that provides the on demand video also applies the technique of "canvas fingerprinting" to identify your browser. The cookies are actually superfluous, because your browser fingerprint is stored in a remote database. How long the data is stored and who can access it remain open questions. More details to come. If you visit the address above, you can verify my results but the browser you use will be tracked.
