Freedom Summer is a film directed by Stanley Nelson Jr.
that narrates the events of the Summer of 1964 the campaign
to register as many African-American voters as possible in the
state of Mississippi.

The film not only covers the 10-week campaign to register African Americans voters ,set up schools and community centers
but also the associated violence that include the murder of three
volunteers .The Freedom Summer Campaign shone a light on
what some called a "closed society" .
