Children of Farm Workers Receive Si Se Puede Scholarships; Two were Farm Workers Themselves
California – The United Farm Workers distributed several scholarships across California in the month of August, 2014 to children of UFW union members and members working in different regions. Several ceremonies were held throughout California to distribute the ¡Si Se Puede! Scholarships.
This scholarship program was established at the request of our members to support students that have demonstrated a commitment to completing their education in spite of any financial hardships. The program has already helped 57 students from 2010-2014 to further their education. The students, all from farm worker families, represent thousands of hard working farm workers throughout California and the Pacific Northwest. The students were selected to receive the scholarships based on their outstanding academic achievement and exemplary volunteer and community service.
The ¡Si Se Puede! Scholarships have been made possible by a generous commitment from the United Farm Workers membership. The UFW has paid over $50,000.00 in Scholarship since the program started in 2010.
