ALEX NIETO RISES EVENT INTERVIEW WITH BENJAMIN on SETTINGTHESTANDARD
Thursday, August 21 • Sunset & Sunrise Vigils

at Alex Nieto Memorial, Bernal Heights Park ring road, north side

On Thursday night, August 21, the five-month anniversary of Alex’s killing, we will hold a family-friendly vigil starting at 7 pm until midnight. (No alcohol, no drugs please.) Join in poetry, singing, story-telling, ceremony, or even a hunger fast. Come for a moment or come for the whole thing! Bring material to make signs for the march.

On Friday morning, August 22, we will hold a 5am sunrise ceremony with danzantes calling on the four directions to guide us through the march that day, followed by Buddhist chant. Mesha Irizarry, mother of Idriss Stelley (born Aug. 20th, 1977, killed by SFPD June 2001) will also be in attendance, and in memory of her son, she will lead those present in a reading of the names of those killed in past decades by SFPD.

Please join our Facebook Event Page for the Sunset & Sunrise Vigils.
Friday, August 22 • 12 noon • March for Civil Rights against Police Killings!

On Friday noon, August 22nd, march with us from Bernal Heights, from the spot where our beloved brother Alex Nieto was unlawfully killed by the San Francisco Police Department, over to Mission Street, and down to the United States federal courthouse in San Francisco’s Civic Center. We will join the Nieto Family in submitting a federal civil complaint to activate the machinery of justice to learn the truth and expose SFPD lies. (The City will now be forced to hand over 911 call(s), witness statements, police reports, autopsy report, photos, video, etc.)
