THE METHANE MENACE IS ON THE MARCH
with David Oertel

We will discuss Malcolm Light’s paper, "Arctic Atmospheric Methane Global Warming Veil." The link to this article is shown below.

What is this methane ‘”veil”? How did it form? What do the methane storage reservoirs, mostly frozen, look like? What is “mantle methane” and where did it come from? Why are methane hydrates (or clathrates) in the East Siberian Arctic Shelf so dangerous? How big are they today? What are the prospects for runaway global warming and human extinction? How is heat being delivered by the Gulf Stream to frozen methane stores, which are melting and contributing massive amounts of methane to the atmosphere. The Earth is being covered by a methane blanket — starting at the North Pole — at the rate of 1 kilometer a day. Will this snuff out all life?

David will briefly present interesting points and graphs from this alarming paper and then participants will be encouraged to comment. It will be more of a guided discussion and less of a lecture. Please join in on this important discussion about climate change!
