Sunny San Mateo Celebrates Gay Pride in Central Park

The 2nd Annual Gay Pride Celebration of San Mateo saw attendees clap and sing along to entertainment on the main stage. The free wheelin' El Camino Reelers even inspired some folks to get up and dance along to the dance calls! Many visitors to the festival toured the dozens of booths that featured information on coming out, getting health care, and finding a spiritual community.

Pollo del Mar in psychedelic drag and with BIG hair introduced speakers and entertainers from the stage. A child/parent group read passages on their dream of a more inclusive society; one group called out Texas Governor Rick Perry for his most recent gaffe. Perry had been in San Francisco 3 days earlier, speaking at the Commonwealth Club. It was there that he said he equated "homosexuality" with alcoholism.
