Olema, Calif. (June 10, 2014) – Charity Navigator, a guide to intelligent and responsible giving, and one of the most used independent evaluator of charities, has awarded Turtle Island Restoration Network the highest prestigious 4-star rating. The rating system is out of four stars.
“This top rating highlights our 25-year-long history of marine wildlife and ocean conservation success,” said Joanna Nasar, Communications Manager with Turtle Island Restoration Network.
Charity Navigator’s mission according to their website is to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace, in which givers and the charities they support work in tandem to overcome our nation’s and the world’s most persistent challenges. Turtle Island Restoration Network has a long history of being a results-driven non-profit and one of it’s very first successes in the late 80s was closing a sea turtle slaughter house in Mexico, saving an estimated 50,000 sea turtles annually. Locally, one of Turtle Island’s early environmental successes was the removal of the aging Roy’s Dam to allow historic salmon runs to continue in Marin County.
"Creativity, passion, and the daring to envision a collective future where current and future generations, and wildlife live together on a healthy planet are the ingredients that has allowed Turtle Island to be so effective. All that and fiscal responsibility is the reason for the highest rating from the world's premier charity evaluator,” said Turtle Island and SPAWN’s Executive Director Todd Steiner.
