Latino Group Urges CA Senate to Pass Moratorium on Fracking
Los Angeles, CA— Presente.org, the nation’s largest online Latino organizing group, is urging the California State Senate to pass a moratorium on Fracking this week. A vote on a bill to halt fracking in California looks likely to come up for a vote shortly.
Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org, released the following statement urging all California Senators to stand with Latinos and pass a moratorium:
“Latinos across California are watching the State Senate this week in hopes of seeing a moratorium on fracking,” said Arturo Carmona, Executive Director of Presente.org. “Make no mistake— Fracking will disproportionately affect Latino communities by draining our water sources, poisoning our families, and fueling climate change. Our families are concentrated in some of the areas in California that would be worst affected by fracking pollution, and in the areas across the US that are most affected by climate change— from flood-prone Miami to the drought-stricken Southwest. We are calling for a moratorium on fracking, and we will closely watch who stands with us and who votes to poison Latino communities this week.”
