Sierra Club Endorsements of Leland Yee

by reader
They are unfortunately a part of the Democrat machine of California -- never once do they endorse a Green, Peace and Freedom or any other party but Democrat. And as the Ds are gradually exposed for what most of them are, it becomes increasingly obvious that the Sierra Club endorsements are part of the problem, not the solution.

With Sierra Club Endorsement at Home, Yee Snubs Environmentalists in Sacramento
by Paul Hogarth‚ Jun. 09‚ 2011

State Senator Leland Yee got the local Sierra Club chapter’s endorsement in his run for Mayor. It was a boost to his campaign, though some wondered if a political quid pro quo between Yee and SF Sierra Club Chair John Rizzo (who hopes to be the next District 5 Supervisor) played a part. Meanwhile up in Sacramento, and far from the consciousness of most San Franciscans, Yee cast one of only three votes in the State Senate last week against SB 388. Supported by major environmental groups (including the Sierra Club) and Native American tribes, the legislation will block a large landfill in San Diego County – Gregory Canyon – that environmentalists have objected to for years. Bill opponents include the Waste Management Inc. company, whose PAC last year gave Yee a $2,500 contribution. It’s part of a larger pattern with Yee – talk a good game with local progressives, but oppose their interests when no one is paying attention.

But just a year later . . .

And then in 2013 . . .

I don't know of any Green Party supporters with any influence or political power in my local community.

Why would the Sierra Club support a small, obscure party that can't get anything done?

I'm not in favor of supporting Democrats, but why on Earth would the Sierra Club support the goofballs in the third parties?

This comment is idiotic -- the two-party capitalist machine makes it virtually impossible for third parties to participate in any meaningful way unless they are independently wealthy. Why would someone frequenting Indybay be endorsing a political system based on who has the most money?

Unlike the Ds and Rs, the Green Party is an international party found in nearly 90 countries worldwide.

In countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Canada and Ireland, Greens hold Federal positions in Parliaments and Congresses. Even within the United States with the climate of oppression there are currently Green mayors in New York and California, including Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, of Richmond. As of October 2012, there were 134 elected Greens in various positions across the US.

Apparently you've never heard of Mayor Gayle . . . she marched with Occupy, is challenging the Wall St. banks, and has worked to bring cooperatives to Richmond. BECAUSE she is a Green, she can reject the corporate hand-outs and so focuses on the needs of the people over Chevron and Wall St.
