Al-Helm: Martin Luther King in Palestine

An African-American choir travels to the West Bank of the Occupied Palestinian Territories to perform in a play that brings Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights struggle to a Palestinian audience. Dr. Clay Carson, who runs the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford, went to Palestine for the performance of his play about Dr. King by the Palestinian National Theatre. The film brings a fresh perspective to the reality of Palestinian life under occupation and ends in a tragedy eerily reminiscent of Dr. King’s life.

Discussion will follow the documentary film screening
