"Welcome to Chilao" is an all-day, family friendly, multiple venue event taking place in Chilao in the Angeles National Forest, located 26 miles northeast of La Canada on Highway 2. Chilao Visitors Center, Chilao School and Newcombs Ranch Restaurant celebrate the annual reopening of the campgrounds with art, hiking, outdoor education, food, guest speakers and hands-on displays. Everyone is welcome. There is no cost for events at Chilao Visitors Center and Chilao School.

"Walking In Balance" New guest speaker Dan Running Bear added to Redbird's April 5 event, "Welcome to Chilao"

A new guest speaker has been added to the events on April 5. At approximately 1:30 PM at Chilao School, Dan Running Bear will host an informal and open discussion, "Walking In Balance" - what that means today, from the physical, cultural and spiritual perspective. How can we reduce the impact of our footprint on the planet? What practical, real things can we do to make this journey a positive one? Dan is a beloved and respected member of Redbird's tiyospaye (extended family) with whom many of us attend ceremony, and we are very happy he will be joining us at Chilao School. Everyone is welcome. There is no cost. This is a perfect opportunity for those who want to enjoy the forest without going on a three hour hike. There will be a variety of refreshments available....maybe even home made cookies.

Please see the attached pdf for details about the day's activities and featured venues (there wasn't any room left on the flier to squeeze Dan in there). Newcomb's Ranch opens at 7 AM, Chilao Visitors Center at 8 AM with activities beginning at 10 AM, and Chilao School opens at 10 AM, with a plein air painting group from Sunland and a fluid schedule of activities throughout the day. We hope you'll join us!
