Investigative reporter Gareth Porter will discuss the findings of his new book 'Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare' (Just World Books, Feb.2014). Based on several years of intensive research, the book shows that many of the claims that western officials make about Iran having long pursued a nuclear weapons program are based on flimsy and in many cases clearly fabricated evidence. These claims have been accepted and parroted with almost no criticism by most of the western mainstream media, which means that most Americans have come to accept them, too.

'Manufactured Crisis' provides a new look at Iran's whole nuclear technology program and the thinking behind it-- including the fact that the country's ruling mullahs have always opposed the development of any weapons of mass destruction, on religious grounds. The book lays out in some detail how the key pieces of the claimed "evidence" that allegedly proves Iran's evil intent were manufactured by sources just as unreliable (and as self-interested) as the infamous "Curveball", whose completely untrue allegations about Iraq were used to jerk the United States into invading that country.

Porter will provide an engaging overview of his book and discuss its key findings with audience members. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing after the event.
