Alliance for Rebuilding Palestinian Villages--Rising to Occasion
Rebuilding Alliance is a coalition of people and groups around the world dedicated to helping war-torn neighborhoods rebuild, and promoting policy change to make them safe. They partner with Israeli and Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations to help Palestinian communities rebuild. On February 16th they held an event in Palo Alto to raise awareness and much needed funds.

Peninsula resident Sophia Omar is Chief Operating Officer of Rebuilding Alliance. She arranged for the Raging Grannies, of which she is a member, to provide entertainment this February 16th event. The Grannies sang to start off the evening at the full house fundraiser.
Photos here, by Brent Turner and Ruth Robertson, show some of the guests in attendance, as well as some of the live auction items. The auction included a juried exhibition of paintings by 15 prominent Palestinian artists from Bethlehem, the West Bank, and Gaza.
It also featured exact models of famous sailing ships, created by Wayne McCoy of San Francisco, a donation from his family. The ships were beautifully lighted, as was the entire evening.
