In poetry and prose, the women of E. Palo Alto's Boys and Girls Club called for an end to violence against women on Valentine's Day.
“Our stories have been buried, denied, erased, altered, and minimized by patriarchal systems that allow impunity to reign,” said Monique Wilson, Director of the campaign One Billion Rising. Her thoughts were echoed in the original poetry of Miss Chillin' of the E. Palo Alto Boys and Girls Club. Youth Award winner Jennifer Valadez read Maya Angelou's poem, Phenomenal Women.
Other young women from the club read original and specially chosen prose pieces. Together they called for revolutionary justice. And everyone danced...
