Coastal Advocates Praise Governor's Coastal Commission Appointment
Coastal advocates are praising Governor Brown’s appointment today of Effie Turnbull Sanders to the California Coastal Commission.
Ms. Turnbull, an attorney from Los Angeles, has served as an alternate on the Coastal Commission since 2013 and is highly regarded by coastal and environmental advocates.
“Effie has outstanding wisdom, character and intelligence with a long-standing record of experience in the public sector that will serve our coastal resources very well,” said Annie Notthoff, California Advocacy Director for the Natural Resources Defense Council. “We are exceedingly grateful to Governor Brown for this excellent appointment.”
Mel Nutter, President of the League for Coastal Protection, concurred. “Effie is a wonderful person, exceptionally bright, and deeply committed to upholding the principles of the California Coastal Act. We all win by Governor Brown’s fantastic appointment of Effie,” said Nutter.
Ms. Turnbull Sanders will fill the Governor’s vacant public member seat. She has been an assistant general counsel at the Los Angeles Unified School District since 2006. She was a deputy attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office from 2004 to 2006 and an associate at Richards Watson and Gershon from 2001 to 2003.
