While additionally removing yet more trees and plants, the University of California, Berkeley intends to end volunteer gardening in People's Park, putting an end to 44 years of public participation, and the essence of the park itself. Real estate developer Robert Lalanne has been hired by UC Berkley as vice chancellor of real estate to take up the task. His job, with 500 underlings, begins Jan. 15th: while it's difficult to determine how and when exactly they are going to implement their plans, it's safe to say very soon. How are we going to respond? This is a call for people to come to the park on Sunday, January 12th at 2pm for a meeting to discuss this and other matters. Your involvement, people's involvement, is what makes the park a people's park.
