12 Years a Slave
Discussion with Professor Ula Taylor

Join Revolution Books and UCB Professor Ula Taylor for a discussion of the powerful new movie based upon the classic slave narrative by Solomn Northrup. Professor Taylor teaches history in the African-American Studies Department and has used the book, 12 Years a Slave, as a text in her classes for many years.

In this true story of the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.

"America has a black president. There's the unfortunate situation with Trayvon Martin, and it's also the anniversary of the March on Washington. With that perfect storm, people are ready to receive and look and reflect on the past when maybe before they were not...." Steve McQueen, director, 12 Years a Slave
