Date:
Tuesday, November 19, 2013
Time:
5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Event Type:
Party/Street Party
Organizer/Author:
Location Details:
Oscar Grant Plaza, 14th and Broadway, Downtown Oakland

Tuesday, November 19th, rally at Oscar Grant Plaza (14th and Broadway in Oakland) at 5:30pm. Oakland City Council is trying to create a mass Orwellian surveillance center (called the Domain Awareness Center), that would allow police to track all residents and visitors.

This center would centralize surveillance camera footage, phone calls, licence plate readings, and social media information for use by local and federal law enforcement. This will most likely lead to drones and facial recognition technology. The Department of Homeland Security is behind this project with a $7 million dollar grant to fund it.

In the wake of the Oscar Grant, Trayvon, and Occupy revolts, as well as the continuing push by local elites to gentrify the bay area, such a project is paramount in the suppression of the local population.

Let's rally this Tuesday at City Hall and SHUT THIS PLAN DOWN!

No curfews, no gang injunctions, so police terrorism! Our struggles are one! Shut down the Domain Awareness Center!

§RALLY AT OAKLAND CITY HALL TODAY (Tuesday, Nov19th) STOP SURVEILLANCE CENTER
by Stop Domain Awareness Center
surveillance.pdf_600_.jpg
The Department of Homeland Security and Oakland Police are building a massive surveillance center to videotape, track, and log the movements of all Oakland residents and visitors! The Domain Awareness Center (DAC) as its called, is an unprecedented attack on our civil liberties, giving the police department unlimited access to our whereabouts. This includes a computer system that aggregates information from thousands of surveillance cameras and license plate readers, and in the future may include facial recognition software and social media data mining.

RALLY AT OAKLAND CITY HALL (OSCAR GRANT PLAZA) THIS TUESDAY AT 5:30PM, TO STOP THE CITY COUNCIL FROM CREATING A MASSIVE SURVEILLANCE CENTER FOR OPD AND DHS!!!

(Please forward widely)

The Department of Homeland Security and Oakland Police are building a massive surveillance center to videotape, track, and log the movements of all Oakland residents and visitors! The Domain Awareness Center (DAC) as its called, is an unprecedented attack on our civil liberties, giving the police department unlimited access to our whereabouts. This includes a computer system that aggregates information from thousands of surveillance cameras and license plate readers, and in the future may include facial recognition software and social media data mining.

The NY Times made Oakland's new surveillance center national news in a front page article warning Americans of its implications as similar technology spreads to other cities. This is another OPD and DHS attack on our rights, essentially criminalizing our every day lives as we are forced to live under constant surveillance as if in a prison complex.

This is a call to all conscious minded people in the bay area!

WE CAN STOP THIS! LET'S SHOW THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE PEOPLE OF OAKLAND ARE AGAINST WARRANTLESS SURVEILLANCE AND POLICE INTRUSION INTO OUR LIVES!!!

RALLY AT CITY HALL AT 5:30 PM THIS TUESDAY, NOV 19th. SPREAD THE WORD TO ALL YOUR LIST SERVS AND GROUPS. CITY HALL MEETING BEGINS AT 6:30pm
