This segment of KPFA WorkWeek Radio focuses on the BART strike and effort to attack the union, concession bargaining and the murders on the railway of BART replacement workers.
KPFA WorkWeek Show October 28, 2013
WW BART Union Busting, Concession Bargaining And Murder On The Rails
This past week after the deaths of two replacement workers on the BART rails, the management and BART board of directors dropped their final and last offer and made further changes in the contract proposal. This strike was a key struggle for all of organized labor and particularly public workers and the corporate press attacked BART workers as overpaid.
At the same time AC 192 workers voted down a concession contract twice and were prevented from striking by their union leadership and Governor Brown who imposed a 60 day cooling off period. They also discuss the role of Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and former Governor Brown aid Steve Glazer who is trying to ban transit strikes.
This program segment interviews Yuri Hollie who is an executive board member of ATU 1555 representing station agents, Doug Gilbert who is a rank and file bus driver of AC ATU 1555 and Jack Heyman of the Transport Workers Solidarity Committee and Charles Smith, delegate to the Alameda Labor Council.
