For the past 7 months, detainees at Guantanamo Bay detention camp have been on various stages of hunger strike protesting their indefinite detention after 84 have been cleared for release. Hunger strikes started almost immediately after the camp was opened 11 years ago and have continued regularly since then, due to their torture and mistreatment. Elliott Adams will shed light on his own hunger strike of 80 days on 300 calories. Berkeley activist and hunger striker Cynthia Papermaster ended her fast 8/29 after 2 Algerians were released. She will bring us up to date on our Berkeley campaign to bring 2 released prisoners to resettle in Berkeley (not at taxpayers’ expense), as authorized by a resolution passed by the Berkeley City Council in 2011.
