The 1970 Postal Strike was a wildcat strike that started in New York City. The strike shut down the mail for an entire week and soon moved across the US. It won higher wages for postal workers across the country and represents an example of workers taking a struggle into their own hands. The strike offers key lessons for workers at BART, AC Transit, and elsewhere to draw from as they confront management and the government itself. Presented by David Welsh, retired postal worker and participant in the recent occupation outside of the downtown Berkeley Post Office, slated for closure.
