Are Occupy Fresno Days Numbered

by Dan Waterhouse, Newslink
Fresno County Board of Supervisors will be considering an ordinance on October 8th that could shut down Occupy Fresno and effectively ban the homeless from Courthouse Park and other county property.
Supervisor Henry R. Perea's ordinance will be considered at the board of supervisors meeting on October 8th. The ordinance would apply to Courthouse Park and other county-owned property.

The ordinance would:

1. Redefine the boundary of Courthouse Park to include the city owned sidewalk and parking lot on the south side of the park near the Hall of Records.
2. It would ban camping in the park or being in the park late at late.
3. It would ban storing personal property (read shopping carts) in the park at any time.
4. Sleeping in the park at any time would be banned.
5. No open fires or BBQs would be allowed.
6. It would be illegal to plug into any power source in the park without permission.

Security concerns were cited as the justification for the ordinance revisions. The ordinance being changed is the same one that was at issue in federal court over a year ago.
