Tower District Vigilantes Plan to Attack Youth
Business owners and some residents plan an attempt to drive youth out of Fresno's Tower District on October 5th
There are plans afoot for a "protest" on October 5th in the Tower District. A group of business owners and residents are hoping to mobilize a crowd of at least 150 to drive youth off the corner of Fern and Maroa, near Strummers, and out of the neighborhood for good.
The youth, many of whom admittedly have addiction or mental health issues, are blamed for much of the crime in the area. There have been longstanding tensions between youth and adults in the area for two decades. The talk about running the youth out of the area picked up steam after a car belonging to one of the owners of Strummers was supposedly broken into a couple of weeks ago. Paul Cuikshank posted on the "Please Help Stop Crime in the Tower District" Facebook page that a computer was taken, he believed the kids on the corner were responsible, and it was time for them to go.
After a heated series of comments, the post was pulled down a week ago. A new post appeared a few days ago, leading to the announced protest on the 5th. After posters realized the youth were aware of it and were planning countermeasures, that post also disappeared. Cuikshank posted on the thread all it would take to run the kids out was him and a few of his friends.
Things could get interesting in the Tower.
