No War on Syria Demonstration at Peace Crossroads in San José
On Sunday September 1, over a period of two and a half hours, dozens of people helped cover time slots to keep the corner of Stevens Creek and Winchester Boulevards occupied with sounds and signs to say: No War on Syria!
Members of the San Jose Peace and Justice Center and the Raging Grannies, along with many other activists, helped cover the two and a half hour time slot designated for a "No War on Syria" demo in the South Bay on September 1st.
Peace Crossroads is what local activists call the intersection of Winchester and Stevens Creek Boulevards, where the cities of Santa Clara and San José meet. It is now ten years since David Ledesma began protesting war at this high traffic corner. It is a busy location where drivers coming and going from tony Santana Row and Valley Fair shopping districts are in a hurry to pass by. Nevertheless, Sunday's demonstrators were encouraged by many enthusiastic honks of support.
The San Jose Raging Grannies formed more than a decade ago. Together with the Peninsula based Action League Raging Grannies they organize and attend anti-war, human rights, and environmental protests from San Francisco to Monterey. They led the crowd in songs and chants: Don't Attack Syria!
