The rally was called on short notice by the Answer Coalition after reports that President Obama might initiate a military strike on Syria, possible as early as Saturday. Activists spoke out against the repetitive call of militarism to protect people from human rights violations. Speakers called into question the stated pretexts, noting a stream of similar lies or dubious statements preceding previous attacks on other countries.

Noon time rallies and marches were called for Saturday in San Francisco and Oakland to keep the pressure up to avoid yet another U.S.-led war.
