Danny Glover Stands With BART Workers In Oakland On August 1, 2013

BART workers are angry at concession demands by the managers and Thomas P. Hock of Veolia Transportation company who is a national union buster.

Over 1,000 workers from many unions joined BART workers at a labor solidarity rally on August 1, 2013. The BART workers face a frontal attack by management and the Board of Directors on their wages, healthcare, retirement and the management refuses to bargain over their health and safety conditions although this is required by the law.

Over 1,000 trade unionists and community activists joined at a rally and march at Frank Ogawa/Oscar Grant plaza in Oakland to defend the fight of the BART workers who are members of ATU 1555, SEIU 1021, AFSCME 3993 and ATU 192 AC transit workers. They are under a frontal attack by BART managers and the Board of Directors of BART to force major concessions and give-backs. ILWU Local 10 initiated the call for the uniting all labor against the concessions and attacks on the BART workers. At the same time tens of thousands of workers are without contracts and face similar demands for wage concessions, increase healthcare and two tier pensions.
Actor and activist Danny Glover also spoke out at the rally and called for the defense of the transit workers and the defense of all workers in the US and internationally.
