Energy Literacy
with Ken Peterson

Let’s work on our energy literacy together, so that we can better assess the resource challenges facing global industrial society and make sense of the many prevalent Pollyanna myths that are prevalent today. Included in the discussion will be:

Laws of Thermodynamics
Net Energy
Energy Density
Embodied Energy
Energy Slaves
Energy Footprint
The Effect of Energy Efficiency (Jevons Paradox)

We can then use our energy literacy to consider the usefulness of the alternative energy sources that are touted as solutions for our future energy needs, such as oil, natural gas fracking, photovoltaics, wind, and biofuels. There’s no reading assignment, but Ken will give us the sources that he will be using to prepare for this talk and discussion on energy literacy.

Humanist Hall is wheelchair accessible around the corner at 411 28th Street

$5 donations are expected
