Date:
Saturday, March 23, 2013
Time:
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Event Type:
Class/Workshop
Organizer/Author:
Davin Wentworth
Location Details:
The School Farm is located next to the athletic field at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and the Academy of Arts and Sciences - 555 Portola Dr. San Francisco. Enter the campus via O'Shaughnessy Blvd @ Portola. Close to 36, 44, 48, and 52 Muni lines. From the parking area on O'Shaughnessy, walk down the hill to the right towards the athletic field. We'll be on the farm the behind the bleachers across the field. See ya there!

How to grow your community in 3 steps: 1) Build an earth oven, 2) Host a potluck party of wood-fired foods, 3) Invite friends, family, and neighbors – it’s that simple! Our community earth oven has served us well for the last few years but it’s time for a rebuild.

Come join us for a one day natural building workshop on how to make a sand mold for the dome, stack the thermal layer around and construct the flue, then pile on the insulation before finishing with a scratch plaster coat. We’ll talk briefly about base construction, subfloor insulation and thermal layers and laying the hearth, but since we already have all that in place we won’t be building it again. We’ll also go over design strategies, the thermodynamics of earth ovens, and where to source materials. Please RSVP for this special event. Tea and Arizmendi baked goods included!
