Event Type:

Location Details:
Meet on the corner of Broadway & Columbus.

This International Women's Day, 2013, join us in the streets to say:

We refuse to accept a world which enslaves and degrades half of humanity simply because they are born female. We are done turning our heads and making excuses. We are done swallowing the daily insults and abuses. We are done blaming ourselves and/or each other. We are done choking on our rage. We dare to confront this war on women head-on, without fear and without compromise.

We will start LOUDLY and BOLDLY at Broadway & Columbus in North Beach, where women are commodified, sold, and used at the strip clubs, porn stores and on the street. Then we will MARCH through San Francisco, take back the night in the name of women everywhere, and CALL OUT the institutions of patriarchy, in all forms - no matter how normalized they have become.

Only through mass, ferocious, political struggle can we begin turn the tide, and we won’t stop until we create a world where women can walk the earth free of fear of rape or violence from men, a world where women participate fully and equally in every realm together with men, a world where being born female is no longer condemnation to a life of abuse and shame.

For International Women's Day 2013, through our mass public actions around the country – joining with women and men around the world – we will make it known: there is a new movement taking hold, a movement you have to join, a movement that will not stop until all the chains that bind women have been shattered forever.

RISE UP with the WOMEN OF THE WORLD!

Friday, March 8 is International Women’s Day. On that Friday and Saturday (March 9) women and their allies in the struggle against violence and for justice will take to the streets all over the world

Join us in San Francisco on March 9th to say: Stop Violence Against Women Everywhere – The Status Quo Must Go!

Rise up! We hold the power to bring an end to sexual violence. Every single gain, every single right we as women have today is the result of struggle. We have to fight back. The status quo must go!

In the United States, 1.3 million women are raped every year. One in every four women experience severe violence at the hands of a current or former partner. Thirty-seven percent of reported rape cases are prosecuted and only 18 percent end in a conviction. Women face intimidation in the workplace. Women in the U.S. military face a record number of sexual assaults. Our sisters in U.S. prisons face horrendous threats and have nowhere to turn. Young women in high schools and on college campuses are regularly forced to contend with intimidation, assault and rape.

This has to end!

From the streets of India to Steubenville, Ohio, mass protests have been organized against sexual violence against women. In both cases, the horrific crimes that were then ignored or covered up have sparked an outcry, a rallying cry against a culture and a society that protects victimizers and alienates victims.

In India, these protests have galvanized a mass movement. We can do the same.

Sexual violence against women isn't “normal.” It's not human nature. Oppression against women—the violence, the objectification, the impoverishment and inequality that women experience—isn't just the way it is. It is a function of patriarchy and of institutionalized sexism, of the sexual objectification of women for corporate profit and of a society that tolerates—and often condones—sexual intimidation and violence.

The time is now to rise up and stop sexual violence against women. Last year, the Occupy movements took on the 1%—the wealth owners—and defended the rights of the 99%—the wealth-makers. The year before, a series of revolutionary movements in the Arab World took on oppressive governments in Egypt and Tunisia in the Arab Spring. We need a Women's Spring all over the world.

Friday, March 8 is International Women’s Day. On that Friday and Saturday (March 9) women and their allies in the struggle against violence and for justice will take to the streets all over the world.

The cult of Bob Avakian (patriarchy indeed!) and his totalitarian ideology is and never will be the solution. The

R.C.P. is staging this event, and they are not being honest about that fact, but show up and they will give you

REVOLUTION signs to hold, and you will be used in their propaganda/outreach efforts.

On this day, women and men with different ideas of why patriarchy exists and how to end it, are UNITING to LOUDLY call "bullshit!" on the system that keeps the oppression of women alive. We will CALL OUT the Catholic Church, with their anti-abortion, anti-gay, child molester-protecting, woman-hating bullshit. We will CALL OUT the multi-billion dollar porn industry, with all its commodifying, objectifying, rape-celebrating bullshit. We will puncture the atmosphere of acceptance of patriarchy that saturates society. Nothing is being "staged." Some of us support the RCP and some don't. We all hate patriarchy enough to show up and FIGHT IT. What the hell will YOU doing that day?
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
