JR Valrey's 02.06.2013 Morning Mix: Wilson Riles, Leroy Moore, Cynthia McKinney, and KPFA

by KPFA Listener
On 02.06.2013, KPFA Morning Mix host JR Valrey spoke to Wilson Riles about the new Oakland currency, to Leroy Moore about Krip Hop Nation, and to Cynthia McKinney about a report that the FBI had arrested Malcolm X's grandson en route to Iran. Between roughly the 23 and 35 minute mark, Valrey also aired some of his complaints about the working environment at KPFA. This section was later deleted from the KPFA archives, but here it is for those particularly concerned with KPFA. Whatever they may think of what Valrey said, here's the record of the whole show, so they can come to their own conclusions.

KPFA's Wednesday Morning Mix host JR Valrey.  On 02.06.2013, between
the 23 and 35 minute mark, JR aired some of his complaints about KPFA's

archive from KPFA's website, but it's included in this download,
which was completed before the deletion.

Thank you, JR, for your excellent criticisms of the racism and reactionary politics in general at KPFA. I have called Andrew Phillips and left a message that as a 57 year listener, I am appalled that KPFA is ignoring Black History Month, itself an excellent fundraiser. Every single day in February, on as many programs as possible, there must be some recognition of Black History Month. One of the best fundraisers are Paul Robeson's recordings, including the collection of DVDs I obtained during one of these fundraisers of Paul Robeson's movies, "Paul Robeson: Portraits of the Artist" The Criterion Collection. Paul Robeson was not only an African-American despised by capitalist America, he was an opera singer. Another good fundraiser for KPFA is classical music, sung by blacks as well as whites, and everyone else, yet KPFA only has 1 classical music program, Sunday mornings from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. The gospel music JR refers to is church music, as is early classical music. These are all good fundraisers and Black History Month is mandatory education for all Americans. I also demanded the JR be given the keys to the door at KPFA the same as everyone else! JR's outrage is fully justified. I CANNOT STAND BRIAN EDWARDS-TIEKERT, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ACTIVIST AT KPFA, who interrupts the evening news at 6:30 pm with his squeaky mouthed program partner to announce his garbage program the next morning. I cannot imagine listening to those 2 hopped-up bourgeois Babbitts at any time, much less early in the morning. See

I am still waiting for United for Community Radio to update its website to monthly descriptions of what takes place at the KPFA Local Station Board meetings. Today, the KPFA website finally showed the current listing of Board members, who took office in January, at:
http://www.kpfa.org/lsb/board-members

After today, there will have been 2 meetings this year and we have yet to hear anything about any meetings since the election. My calculations are that there are 8 UCR members on that Board of 24. I am glad to see Tracy Rosenberg was re-elected to the Pacifica National Board. The UCR website is
http://www.votecommunityradio.org/

The reason the listeners have no understanding as to what is going on as most have no information. The UCR website should broadcast the above audio and should describe exactly what happened at every single Local Station Board meeting, and the major events that affect KPFA at every Pacifica National Board meeting.

And when they get to Women's History Month in March, they had better have history of women of all colors, every single day, and they had better discuss why abortion is being repealed in all the Old Confederacy states, and in all rural areas. They should also discuss the importance of the legal decision of 1973, Roe v Wade, legalizing abortion in this country, as the majority opinion was written by a Nixon Republican appointee, Justice Blackmun, and a Democratic Kennedy appointee, Justice White, dissented, proving THAT IT IS MASS MOVEMENTS THAT WIN VICTORIES.

This writer also wants to hear Workweek Radio every single Monday as we desperately need a labor show every single week and it is an excellent labor show.

And on all shows, KPFA must refer to the events of 9/11/01 as the 9/11 Inside Job. It was not an attack from the outside; there were no hijackers on those planes; 9 of the so-called hijackers were still alive on 9/12/01, the planes were on remote control, drones essentially, guided by the US military, NO AIR DEFENSE means it was an Inside Job and if you need more, CONTROLLED DEMOLITION of the Twin Towers and Building 7, which Building 7 was not hit by a plane, proves it was an Inside Job, and there is much more evidence that it was an Inside Job. I was appalled to hear Dennis Bernstein of Flashpoints go along with the lie that the US killed Osama bin Laden recently. OBL had nothing to do with the 9/11 Inside Job, died in December 2001 of kidney disease and Marfan's Syndrome, and was, as a lifelong CIA agent, the pre-arranged fall guy. Further, not only was 9/11 Inside Job, the government assassinated Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, John and Robert Kennedy. The evidence is overwhelming and should be known to everyone at KPFA. This is called DOING YOUR HOMEWORK. If we, the audience, have to educate the people at KPFA on these subjects, then we do not need KPFA.

As to the need for Black History Month being an education forum on black history every single day in February, the poison of racism is everywhere in this society and the antidote is black history education. The evidence of the problem is at KPFA, as JR has described. While the white European descendant population will soon by a minority, probably by 2020 as the median age among whites is 42 and rising, all immigrant populations advance by being given priority over African-Americans, as were whites. This can only end with education. There really is not much to listen to at KPFA if all we get is bourgeois drivel. KPFA must be first and foremost the station that airs programs OF, BY AND FOR THE WORKINGCLASS, and in the US that means FIRST AND FOREMOST, AFRICAN-AMERICANS.

an amusing story of someone asking a question at a KPFA LSB meeting

JK, Jack Kurzweil, a very famous member of the infamous SaveKPFA gang, was not funny, Fortunately, the rest of his gang was not ready for his sickness. He is better known as the former husband of Bettina Aptheker, who describes their religious marriage while both were members of the Communist Party, in her book, Intimate Politics, published in 2006. Kurzweil is now a member of the Wellstone Democratic Club, apparently finally realizing that he was not a communist after all. He is now about age 78, and a retired professor of electrical engineering, having taught at San Jose State University. To demand that someone be banned from speaking at the Local Station Board meetings because anyone on the LSB does not like their opinion is extremely reactionary. His attitudes were not recently formed, given his age. He and his fellow SaveKPFA anti-KPFA gang have clearly been promoting their reactionary politics and disruptive behavior all their adult lives while calling themselves leftists, communists or something similar. They have promoted the song and dance act of telling people to be communists and vote Democrat-capitalist. They have nothing to show for it now: This country is the most backward country in the industrialized world with the weakest left in any country.

Your definition of "left" is anyone who agrees with you. It's sad really. You've reached adulthood and still haven't figured out that sometimes people will disagree with you and it doesn't make them a bad person. It makes them someone who disagrees with you. The only people who feel the way you do (everything revolves around me and what I think) are small children and fanatics. The world is a big, complex place with all kinds of different people with all kinds of different viewpoints. Your narrow, closed-minded, sectarian world-view belongs on the ash bin of history along with the other totalitarian nightmares of the 20th century. You're a sad person really. Arrogantly spewing rhetoric on-line whilst the world has passed you and your ilk by. You've made a ruin of Pacifica. It used to be a place of open debate and discussion. It used to be a place where people honestly sought the truth based on evidence gathering. Now it's this half-baked dystopian vision of what Orwell envisioned when he wrote 1984 -- angry screeds and propaganda in place of fact-based analysis. We don't get reasoned debate, we get the frothings of aging party aparatchiks that would embarrass the media of the worst dictatorships.
Varley's reports are mostly unlistenable. What a stupid complaint about Sasha Lilley.

Good riddance.
by KPFA Listener
She did, during her tenure as Program Director, throw Youth Radio off the air for a accidental FCC violation. She was not suspended for making the same error on her own show. That is a real complaint. Youth Radio, after being thrown off KPFA, went on to become a nationally syndicated show.
