Vote No on the KPFA Recall; Ballots Due in June

by We Love Tracy Rosenberg
The June 15, 2012 KPFA Manager's Email announced that the nightmare of the destruction of KPFA and Pacifica is going forward with the contrived recall of the outstanding Local and National Board member, Tracy Rosenberg. Please be sure to immediately vote NO and return your ballot. For more on this expensive horror show, see http://www.stopthekpfarecall.org/ and http://www.stopthekpfarecall.org/?page_id=25

This Email contained another outrageous announcement, namely that there is a delay in the Local Station Board elections, due for September, now taking place starting October 15 when the ballots are to be mailed. PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE YOUR GOVERNMENT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BALLOT WITH THE KPFA LOCAL STATION BOARD BALLOT. It really would make more sense to have the KPFA board election in January. This election was originally in November-December, allowing the ballots to be mixed with the Money Season card mail, causing great confusion, so the Local Station Board moved the election to September. The end of the year is already very crowded; January is better. As it is, now the Local Station Board deadline to receive ballots is November 30, while the presidential election is November 6. Let us hope the KPFA subscribers are able to distinguish the two and vote in both by mail.

Let us also hope that the friends of Tracy Rosenberg run on a platform for Local Station Board of not only opposing her recall but also all recalls and will repeal all recall provisions in the bylaws as we have expensive Local Station Board elections almost every year and thus there is never any reason for an expensive recall election.

The newsletter also contained the announcement that the May fund drive was short of its goal of $740,000, raising $690,000, if all pledges are paid. This figure is supposed to get KPFA to its next fund drive, usually in September, and somehow not only pay for the usual expenses but also TWO elections, the expensive recall and the expensive Local Station Board election.

First prize for money pitches goes to Michael Parenti's reminder to pay pledge tape, accompanied by classical music, that immediately made me feel at home, and willing to give to KPFA. There are lots of socialists who listen to classical music and if KPFA is looking for support, it ought to increase its classical music segments, in addition to the 1 that exists, namely Sunday mornings from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. When we feel we have a home at a radio station, we are likely to give what we can. All KPFA has to do is rebroadcast the 3 hour opera program, Through the Opera Glass, from WBAI. That would bring in a tidal wave of cash. After all, KPFA has a much stronger signal than the local classical music station, which we all love. It would be icing on the cake and then some to have classical music and radical politics at one station, KPFA.

As we immediately Vote NO ON THE RECALL upon the receipt of the ballot and MAIL IT IMMEDIATELY, we join the honor roll of endorsers of Stop The Recall of our beloved Tracy Rosenberg at
