Pacifica's fiscal management undermines Free Speech Radio News

Pacifica has apparently put those who provide the network’s national programming at the bottom of its list of bills to pay. It owes Democracy Now! and Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) more than $1 million. While Democracy Now! has enough resources to cushion the blow, Pacifica’s unpaid bills to Free Speech Radio News threaten its very existence.
Free Speech Radio News was founded by freelance reporters protesting censorship at Pacifica the last time the network went off the rails. What started as a “strike cast” during the 1999-2001 Pacifica crisis later became an independent, worker-run collective producing news for Pacifica for over a decade.

“The idea that Pacifica will let this valuable news program die is shameful at best,” one FSRN correspondent told us. FSRN urgently needs to raise $40,000 this month to pay its contributors and stay on the air. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation at FSRN’s website: http://www.fsrn.org

We also encourage you to circulate this special video message supporting FSRN from Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez of Democracy Now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=S1jis2bZF4k

On neither Democracy Now nor Free Speech Radio News do we hear cheers for the awakened Russian bear under president Vladimir Putin. See Steve Lendman's excellent analysis at

When the Soviet Union existed, Nazi USA did not dare perpetrate its blood for oil wars against Iraq, Iran, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The massacre in Houla was carried out by the CIA's Free Syrian Army. More on Nazi USA's dirty hands in Syria may be found at:

When I listen to Democracy Now and the 6 p.m. evening news, the latter of which includes Free Speech Radio News, I hear the American propaganda machine promoting US imperialism. I never hear any interviews with Russians. There are Russian consulates in San Francisco and New York and other US cities, and a Russian embassy in Washington, D.C. And, of course, by phone, one can call Russia.

When I heard about the Houla Massacre, I immediately assumed this was a CIA massacre to discredit the Syrian government, and that has been proven to be correct. KPFA's news department immediately assumed the American propaganda machine was correct and never referred to the CIA.

That is why the paid news staff at KPFA must be laid off. They not only cost us too much; they also have nothing to say. They also repeat stories and have endless fillers. Two nights ago I heard a repeat of someone accused of burning tires in Bahrain. There was no reason to repeat that story except that the KPFA evenings news is an hour long, instead of a half hour, so they needed filler.

THREE CHEERS FOR THE RUSSIAN BEAR, as we always said when the Soviet Union existed. In spite of all the problems in the Soviet Union, not only did they have a far better economy than under Yeltsin, the perpetrator of the capitalist destruction of the Soviet Union, they were a shield against US imperialism. Those of us who can easily remember the US war against Vietnam also remember our daily cheers for the aid of the Soviet Union to the Vietnamese people in their successful struggle against US imperialism. Victory in Vietnam Day, April 30, 1975, was the happiest day in the life of my generation, just as Victory in Europe Day, May 8, 1945, was the happiest day in the life of our parents' generation, made possible in large part by the US ally against Nazi Germany, namely the Soviet Union, in its single-handed defeat of the Nazis at the Battle of Stalingrad, August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943, the turning point of World War 2, and its lead in the Race to Berlin, which it won on VE Day, with the US, which had opened a Second Front with its invasion of Normandy starting June 6, 1944, remaining outside and west of Berlin. Yes, Stalin was evil, but it was the Soviet people who prevailed and saved all our lives. IT IS LONG OVERDUE THAT KPFA AND DEMOCRACY NOW GET ON BOARD IN CHEERING THE RUSSIAN BEAR.
