Central Valley | Immigrant RightsMay Day in Fresno
About 500 people participated in the May Day march through downtown Fresno today. The event started with a rally at Courthouse Park and included a march with the primary theme of immigrant rights. Groups including Occupy Fresno, Peace Fresno, and other community groups also participated in this International Workers Day celebration. The following is from a Press Release sent from the group who organized the May Day march and rally:
May Day Committee for Immigration Reform is a joint effort of several local organizations to influence on the country’s politic in defense of the rights of all immigrants. It is obvious that many people are discouraged for many years of struggle without concrete results in their favor from the U.S. Federal Government. Nevertheless, there are a lot of reason why we should keep the struggle; 2012 Presidential Elections, fight anti-immigrants laws implemented in other states, drivers license, secure communities programs, car impounds and comprehensive immigration reform.
