On Friday afternoon, Chancellor Katehi ordered the UC Davis police to attack students protesting peacefully on the UC Davis quad. Her actions have been met with international shock, outrage, and condemnation. As the spotlight of the world rests upon our campus, we, the students, have an opportunity to assemble and showcase the moral strength and power of peaceful protest, especially in the face of overwhelming and violent oppression. Join us Monday at noon on the Quad to show solidarity and support to the students who were beaten and sprayed by UC Davis police in riot gear. Join us to call for the resignation of Chancellor Katehi, who ordered the violent reprisals against our students, UC Davis Police Chief Annette Spicuzza, who ordered officers to advance upon students in a way that created an unsafe situation for both students and officers, and UC Davis Police Lt. John Pike, who soaked peaceful, sitting protesters with canister after canister of chemical irritants before engaging in violent assaults upon them. Participants are encouraged to come and share their voice with those of others, free from fear of violence or reprisal. Music, song, games, and other forms of creative, non-violent expression are encouraged. §The UC President and Board of Regents Have Failed

The entire leadership of the University of California has failed. Torture advocates teach Constitutional Law while non-violent students are savagely assaulted. The resignation of UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi will not solve the problem of systematic leadership failure. UC President Mark Yudof and every member of the Board of Regents must accept responsibility for their dismal, if not predatory, leadership of the University of California and resign immediately, or else face a dishonorable severance.
