South Bay Committee Against Political Repression will be showing the film "20 Years Y Que?", a short film on the Chicano Moratorium. (28 minutes)
The Chicano Moratorium took place on August 29, 1970 in which more than 20,000 people marched and rallied in L.A. against the Vietnam War. It was the largest single antiwar demonstration in the Chicano/Mexicano community and was a protest against the high number of Chicano deaths in the war as well as the unequal conditions for Chicanos in the United States. Three people were killed by the police that day, including journalist Ruben Salazar.
Suggested Donation $5-10. No one turned away for lack of funds.
*Donations will be collected to go to the defense of Carlos Montes, a longtime Chicano community activist who helped to organize the Chicano community against the war in Vietnam and the 1990 20th Anniversary commemoration. He is also shown in this film.
