This event honors Ramadan fasting which, this year, coincides with the day the nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. People of many faiths and beliefs will participate. It will include a talk by Takashi Tanemori, a Hibakusha (A-bomb Survivor), the lighting of a Peace Flame from Hiroshima, Jewish sacred chanting, meditative Shakuhachi flute music, and Muslim Sunset prayer. There will be talks from different perspectives, including the parallels between the scapegoating of the Japanese Americans in the 1940s by a JACL member and scapegoating of American Muslims today by Imam Ali Siddiqui. At Sunset the ceremony of Breaking of Ramadan fast and for those who choose to fast will takes place followed by Muslim Sunset Prayer led by Imam Ali Siddiqui (all are welcome). A community potluck dinner will close the evening.

Please bring a dish to share. Dishes should have No Pork and No Alcohol. Vegetarian preferred.
