Sistah Boom is a drumming group which formed in 1981. They’ve performed at Pride and other socially conscious events over the decades. They also perform educational activities, sharing this type of music, in “lesbian-affirmative”, feminist environments with an outspoken political consciousness. At this event, Sistah Boom is led by co-founder drummer-vocalist Carolyn Brandy and noted drummer Ubaka Hill, calling out for a message of positive change.

This was the last performing act before the march, and they continued drumming into the streets throughout the march through the Mission and into the Castro.

Shelly Doty is a long-time great Bay Area guitarist, versatile with the ability to crank out loud rock. She has been somewhat under the radar screen commercially, performing solo and with a diverse range of different artists, bands, and guitar styles. She performs with a new band, “Claire”, which is just releasing its first CD, playing loud, heavy rock. Maria Stanford is on vocals. They've just released a CD. Doty also performs with the “All Black Girl” rock band” Sistas In The Pit, where she really shows off her psychedelic rock guitar style. She’s also an excellent singer-songwriter. Both bands also performed during the Pride events Sunday.

Activist singer-songwriter Alix Dobkin performs a set, with popular singer-songwriter Phranc taking over for a couple of numbers. Dobkin got her start in music on the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960’s, bringing socialism and feminism to her activist lyrics and musical approach. She is on the verge of turning 70, outspoken and still as clear and vibrant as can be. She has released a memoir book, “My Red Blood” about her time growing of age as a socialist. She currently lives in Woodstock, NY, was a San Franciscan in the past.
