Lessons from the Puerto Rican Student Strike:

After more than a month on strike, students at the University of Puerto Rico won a major victory against the privatization of their school. Come here a first hand account of the biggest international victory against budget cuts in public education in years.

Ovidio Efrain Lopez is a member of Organizacion Socialista Internacional in Puerto Rico he is also a student in the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez Campus the second most important campus of the UPR. He is a leader of the student movement and a member of the group that formed during the strike Colegiales en Accion.

Roberto Pastrana Pages is a founder member of the Comite Contra la Homofobia y el Discrimen (CCHD) in Rio Piedras. He is also a leader in the LGBT community in PR. He represented Puerto Rico in a recent LGBT convention in Lima Peru. The CCHD was a strong support to the students strike in the UPR.
