Missing Baby Girls:
Emerging dimensions of an Asian social problem in California

Gender-selective abortion in India, China, and other Asian countries is rooted in complex cultural, social, and economic preferences impacted by modernization. Emerging birth statistics suggest that some of these patterns have moved to California. Dr. Sharat Lin explains why this is happening now, the role of technology, implications for gender inequality, and what has and can be done about it.

Dr. Lin has written or presented over a hundred papers on medicine and public health, including two book chapters.
