Historically known as the "Potemkin Village" visit, this type of PR trick was first used by the Russian Tsars' handlers to impress the ruling elite that everything's hunky dory down at the periphery of the Empire. Hastily constructed false facades were put up to give a make-believe photo-op of how the good life the common peasants were living under the protection of the benevolent Ruler. Evidently, the USA empire is learning the lesson of how to transmit images of "tranquility" under the auspices of an Imperial Occupation. And once again, the Corporate-bin-Laden media is dutifully hiding the pesky details such as the fact that the town market at Zad was completely off limits to local Afghans, for obvious "security" reasons--it's quite likely many locals might have longed to lob a few "welcoming fireworks" for the Occupier's War Secretary!
